JILLIENE SELLNER
Extant (2015) was a limited time online exhibition held in a specially designed 3D digital gallery (WC Gallery). Guests were invited via Facebook and asked to send comments of their experience. Jilliene feels there is a potential area of inquiry in designing an ‘online only’ presentation of work and hoped to explore the idea that “...art in the Net as opposed to merely on the Net must exploit the particular qualities of hardware and software to the extent that is unthinkable without its medium the Internet.” (Broekmann in Colson, 2007, p. 117)

Facebook event text:
Extant is an initial presentation of a new research project which aims to explore material artistic process and it's position in relation to 'art as experience' (Dewey) in the 'digital age'.

The works have been through several mechanical processes, are temporarily available and viewed on-screen.  Sellner hopes that Extant will begin to raise questions about online visual experiences (and potential neurological consequences), temporality, spacial positions, optics, information overload, economics of artistic practice and authenticity.

The artist invites you to share your thoughts via the email link. Viewer comments are an essential component which will be incorporated into the ongoing research.
