My current work pursues a process based practice through digital paintings during stolen moments while caring for my 18 year old daughter who experiences complex learning, communication and medical needs. The paintings reflect the art that my daughter makes but is more an abstraction of and in the moment. Large prints confront the expectation by the art world to produce large impactful and time consuming work which directly conflicts with real available time and space. Exploring the lack of value placed on digital painting as a parallel to the value placed on unpaid carers and more broadly the difficulty that carers and mothers have in engaging in creative practices.
